Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before using Risus. These Terms govern your access to and use of the Risus mobile app, website, APIs, and related services, together called the "Service." By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Risus is an account-based social and messaging platform that may allow users to create profiles, publish posts or pings, repost content, join chat rooms, send messages, upload media, view profiles, receive notifications, save content, and use AI-assisted features such as captions, image generation or editing, content analysis, similar-post suggestions, and music generation.
Words with initial capital letters have the meanings defined below. Definitions apply equally in singular and plural form.
The Risus mobile application, website (risus.io), APIs, and all associated features and functionality, collectively referred to as the "Service."
Risus, the operator of the Service.
The individual or legal entity accessing or using the Service.
Posts, pings, reposts, captions, comments, messages, photos, videos, audio, usernames, profile information, and any other material that users create or upload through the Service.
The rules governing acceptable content and conduct on the Service, available at /community-guidelines and incorporated into these Terms by reference.
AI-powered tools within the Service, including caption generation, image generation and editing, image and video analysis, repost assistance, similar-post suggestions, content moderation and safety detection, music generation, and other machine-learning-assisted functionality.
You must be at least 13 years old, or the higher minimum age required in your country, to create an account or use Risus. Certain features may have a higher age requirement and may be unavailable to minors. Accounts determined to belong to users below the applicable minimum age may be suspended, restricted, or permanently removed. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian where required by law.
You may not use the Service if you are legally prohibited from doing so, were previously banned by Risus, or are using the Service on behalf of a person or organization without authorization.
Risus chat requires an account and profile and is not designed as a service whose core purpose is to randomly connect users with unknown people or deliberately conceal user identity. Display names do not permit impersonation, age-control evasion, ban evasion, or deceptive anonymity.

Risus may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, our Community Guidelines, our Child Safety Standards, the law, or safety requirements.

Users retain ownership of the content they create and upload to Risus.
By posting, uploading, transmitting, or otherwise making content available through Risus, you grant Risus a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, display, distribute, transmit, modify, adapt, and use such content solely for the purpose of operating, maintaining, improving, promoting, protecting, and providing the Risus platform and related services.
This license terminates when content is permanently removed from Risus, except where retention is required or permitted for legal obligations, security investigations, moderation records, backups, dispute resolution, compliance, user safety, or abuse-prevention purposes.
You represent that you have the rights needed to upload and share your content and that your content does not violate these Terms or the rights of others.
The Service may include direct messages or chat rooms. You are responsible for the messages and media you send. Risus may review messages or related metadata when needed to provide the Service, investigate reports, enforce policies, prevent abuse, protect users, or comply with law. Do not send confidential, illegal, abusive, exploitative, or harmful content through the Service.
The Service may include AI-assisted features that generate, suggest, classify, summarize, or modify content. AI outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, offensive, unsafe, or unsuitable. You are responsible for reviewing AI outputs before posting, sending, sharing, or relying on them.
You must not use AI features to create or distribute illegal, abusive, deceptive, sexual, exploitative, hateful, harassing, infringing, or child-safety-violating content. Additional AI rules are explained in the AI-Generated Content Policy.
Risus may apply prompt and output filters, automated moderation, human review, labels, and other safeguards. You can report or flag offensive AI output from within the app. Third-party AI processing, data categories, and consent practices are described in the Privacy Policy and the AI-Generated Content Policy.
Some features require device permissions such as camera, microphone, media access, notifications, network access, or file access. You can manage permissions through your device settings.
The Service may use third-party services for login, hosting, storage, crash reporting, analytics, AI processing, notifications, media processing, moderation, email delivery, SMS verification, and security. Your use of those features may also be subject to those providers' applicable terms and policies.
Risus may remove, restrict, label, demote, or disable access to content, features, or accounts if we believe there is a violation of these Terms, our policies, the law, or safety requirements. We may also preserve information and cooperate with law enforcement or safety organizations where appropriate.
We may use automated systems, human review, or both. Users may appeal certain enforcement actions by contacting help@risus.io.
You may request deletion of your account and associated data through the in-app deletion flow (Settings > Account > Delete Account) and the public web deletion page at https://risus.io/delete-request. Risus may retain limited information where required or permitted for legal, safety, security, fraud-prevention, dispute, moderation, backup, or legitimate business reasons.
Risus may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, create risk, cause possible legal exposure, or repeatedly infringe rights. Sections that by their nature survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimer, liability, and indemnity provisions — will remain in effect.
The Service, including software, design, branding, logos, graphics, trademarks, and other materials, belongs to Risus or its licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, or create derivative works from the Service except as permitted by law or with written permission. The Copyright and Intellectual Property Policy explains how to submit notices and counter-notifications.
If you submit ideas, suggestions, or feedback, you grant Risus the right to use them without restriction or compensation.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, Risus disclaims warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, and reliability.
Risus does not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components. AI Features may produce outputs that are inaccurate, incomplete, offensive, or unsuitable, and you are solely responsible for reviewing them before posting or sharing.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Risus and its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or loss of profits, revenues, data, goodwill, or business opportunities.
Risus's total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid Risus for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Risus from claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from your use of the Service, your content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of the rights of others or the law.
Risus may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service at any time. Risus may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the effective date and provide additional notice when required.
By continuing to use the Service after updated Terms take effect, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service before the changes take effect.
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to the Risus publisher or operator, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, unless mandatory consumer law provides otherwise. Courts or dispute-resolution bodies with proper jurisdiction may hear disputes as required by applicable law.
